Last weekend the Italian FootGolf Association (AIFG) organized the second round of the national championship. There were nearly 150 players in two days, and Leonardo Dicaria says, they can reach two hundreds in June for the European Footgolf Trophy Tour.
The season in Italy started on 24th January with 112 players and 21 teams. Last weekend, there were 143 players and 25 teams on the second round of the national championship in North Italy.
We asked Leonardo Decaria, the president of the Italian federation about this growth of the participants. He said: ‘We think and hope that this is the trend, and we will have it during all the season. It was a two-day event, because we had too many players to let them play in a single day.’
There are twelve rounds of the championships, and the nine best results count. Italy also host an European Footgolf Trophy Tour round in June.
Dicaria said: ‘We are very thrilled to host an Euro Tour stage, for sure we will give the prority to foreign players and then will fill the number with Italian players by the national ranking, so we will have the best players competing in the tournament. We are expeting 150 footgolfers, but we hope to reach the 200.’
