After winning the Grand Final in Portugal, the Italian Fabio Mazzer became the best over 45 player of the continent. The new champion talked about his four ingredients of success.
Are you satisfied with your game played during the Grand Final of the European FootGolf Grand Slam?
This was my second presence on the Portugal Open and I must say that the Portuguese team has grown a lot over the past two years. The field was very beautiful and technical in a wonderful location. I played in the final group on the decisive day both in 2018 and 2019 and so I am very satisfied with my performance. Being always and constantly with the best players of the world helped me to reach a very high level in FootGolf. It is very difficult but rewarding.
What were the key points in your game to be crowned the European champion?
Constance, character, desire and strategy. Constance in the level of play. The character in being able to overcome difficulties after making a mistake. The desire in wanting to improve any detail that is fundamental in this sport and make the difference. And finally the strategy to be applied on every different course. These were the keys for me in achieving this fantastic result.
Any specific preparation before big tournaments?
In order to compete at these levels, you must work hard to be able to always improve. Do specific workouts on tee shots, approaches, and putts! So much training, so much passion and character to be able to face difficult fields and great champions with the utmost respect but at the same time with the utmost self-confidence. The work associated with quality always rewarding.
