Lionel Jacot’s consistent performance ended in celebration. The Swiss teacher played on nine stages of the European Footgolf Trophy Tour (EFTT) this year, and was always in the top ten. David Mancino and the British footgolfers helped him to improve his game.
What should we know about the best player in Europe?
I am a physical education teacher and also a football coach and a player. I used to play at least once per week, depends the period of the year. Unfortunately, winter is coming in Switzerland, so it will be hard to play during the next three months.
What is the secret? How can someone be the first after such a long season?
It's not really a secret... I tried to be the more consistent and play as constant as I could. It was bringing me confidence all year long and finally good results have come like ripe fruits. I played nine stages and was always in the top ten (9th, 2x8th, 7th, 5th, 3rd, 2x2nd, 1st) and I am really proud of this fact.
Which was your favourite course and why?
Hard to say. Obviously I have special feelings about Villars in Switzerland. This course is really amazing, the panorama around is just wonderful. But the course in Turkey was just so beautiful, it was really an interesting design, good variations and difficulty. It was the last of the season so I have fresh memories about it.
Was it hard to be better than the last time champion David Mancino, and the very strong team UK?
Definitely yes. I used to practice a lot with David Mancino, specially this summer in Ireland and Germany, we travelled together and played more than 300 holes together included two official rounds of the EFTT. I also played with a lot of UK players, very often with Paul Oliver, Nick Iron and Clinton Moore. Unfortunately, I did not play with Ben Clarke. I learned a lot and these players helped me to improve my game and was also good for improve my mental abilities. But there's not only about Mancino or the British team, all the players who participated in the EFTT made the sport and the level become better and stronger.
What are your plans?
I will be in Argentina for the World Cup, I am so impatient to be part of the biggest event ever organized and meet new players for all around the world. I don't want to look too far, but of course I will do my best on the EFTT 2016 to defend my title against this huge concurrency.
